About the Artist
Toni Chiapelli is a professional photographer, painter, writer and poet living in Portland, Oregon. She comes from a multi-generational line of artists, designers and land tenders and is the descendant of Michigan artist Josephine Chiapelli.
After being a mid career fine art photographer for many years, she turned her creative voice towards painting - finding a new way to communicate a lifetime love affair with Impressionism, magical realism, surrealism, abstraction, nature worship and spirituality. Here she discovered luminous scattered light that dances across the canvas, creating a mosaic effect and a dreamy simplicity that only Impressionism offers. Her paintings are often mystical nature pathways and, unlike most photographs which can sometimes feel stagnant, her paintings capture numerous successful moments in time, creating an alive presence. And when you view a painting, you can tangibly see someone's soul and a lifetime of experiences expressed through texture, brushstrokes and subject choices. Toni Chiapelli's paintings are color meditations often created while listening to mantras. They are full of unexpected vibrancy inspired by the likes of Cezanne, Gustav Klimt, Van Gogh and Gauguin, and her mentors, Josephine Chiapelli, Erin Gafill and David Lazarony to name a few.
Her unique artistic vision has gained international attention providing numerous exhibitions including the Portland Art Museum, Newport Fine Art Gallery, the Monterey Museum of Art and the Pacific Grove Art Center to name a few. Her work can be found in private collections throughout Michigan, Oregon, California, Arkansas, Montana, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands and the Caribbean.
